A resurgent the Russian player secured his initial title for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the competition championship match.

The Russian, a former world number one, has had a difficult period, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.

His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and struggles with his service game in particular - caused him exiting of the top ten and ultimately separating with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now training with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has steadily progressed in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set victory over challenger Corentin Moutet.

It is the player's first trophy following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard court since that period of 2023.

Success also signifies the Russian has achieved 21 championships at 21 different events.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my two daughters together, so to win a title is particularly special," stated ranked player the champion.

"This title is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his previous six championship matches, comprising in the German tournament earlier this year.

His retrieving strategy and regular reactions on court had prompted observers to doubt if his capacity to play at the highest level was finished.

Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an enhanced service.

The champion fought back from a deficit in the initial set against the tricky Moutet, winning four of the last five points to gain the advantage.

The competitors exchanged breaks in the middle set before the challenger, striving for his first tour victory, seized the initiative to force a final set.

The opponent rescued 4 initial break points in a tight final set before the champion broke to that score to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched the win with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman failing to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
