Unveiling a Bizarre Steam Demo: Guiding a Piece of Feces on a Quest to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and enthusiasts have encountered a variety of engaging independent titles. However, one stands out for its unconventional concept. Called Unko Technica, this old-school styled platformer lets you play a hero that is literally a piece of poop attempting to travel to a commode. In case you're wondering, "Unko" translates to "poop."

How you interact is straightforward: just use a single jump button. In numerous levels, you'll face mini-bosses and unlock a market to buy outfits for your poop character.

Plan your jumps with caution, since one error forces starting over. Jump using floating orbs to hurl your character upward, traverse fragile platforms, and touch buttons to open new areas. Gather currency for buying tougher game content as things ramps up.

In terms of design, the game boasts neon environments and catchy soundtrack. The simple visual style with moving geometric shapes could recall fans of beloved games like Earthbound.

While it's hard to recall other games where you play as a piece of feces, gaming often incorporated scatological themes. For instance, in Death Stranding, you can make grenades from character excrement. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use manure as soil enrichment. Unsurprisingly, fecal references appears extensively in the role-playing game The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its goofy idea, Unko Technica has already earned impressive accolades, such as taking top honors at a major publisher's indie contest in 2023. A playable preview is available at present on Steam, with the complete version planned to debut on computers on November 19.
